Accessibility
Accessibility and inclusion in museums are essential to ensure that everyone—regardless of their abilities or individual characteristics—can fully enjoy cultural and artistic experiences. Museums play a crucial role in preserving and dissemination of heritage, and it is fundamental that they remain accessible to all.
At the MACA, specific programmes and activities have been implemented to address the needs of different groups. For example, inclusive programmes, guided tours, and workshops have been designed, and the museum has worked closely with associations dedicated to inclusion to develop collaborations and joint projects. These partnerships have made it possible to reach a broader and more diverse audience, offering opportunities to people with disabilities and groups with special needs.
Thanks to these efforts, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Alicante has become a benchmark in accessibility and inclusion. Its commitment has enabled people who might previously have felt excluded or limited in their participation in cultural life to now fully enjoy the exhibitions and activities offered by the museum.
Physical accessibility
The museum has an accessible entrance that allows easy access for visitors who use wheelchairs or who have mobility difficulties. The museum also provides a wheelchair for visitors with reduced mobility, which can be requested at the information desk. In addition, the building has lifts that ensure access for people using wheelchairs or with limited mobility. There are also seating areas and rest zones throughout the museum route.
Hearing accessibility
Work is currently underway on devices offering audio descriptions of selected artworks through QR codes, as well as on providing subtitles for videos or audiovisual content, allowing visitors with hearing disabilities to access the information.
Visual Accessibility
The museum’s lifts are equipped with Braille and raised‑relief signage inside.
Language Accessibility
Leaflets and gallery sheets are available in Spanish, Valencian, French and English.
Cognitive accessibility
The museum offers facilitated visits adapted to the needs of visitors with intellectual disabilities, using plain language and providing additional examples or explanations whenever necessary.
Cultural Mediation
MACA offers a variety of cultural mediation programmes tailored to different age groups and levels of artistic knowledge. These programmes aim to encourage active participation, dialogue and learning through direct interaction with artworks and artists. Activities may include guided tours, workshops, talks, special events and educational activities.
