The Museum of Contemporary Art in Alicante MACA has organized a week of activities on the occasion of World Alzheimer's Day, which is celebrated on September 21st. Under the motto "Integrating Innovation," the museum offers, from September 18th to 24th, guided tours, panel discussions, and the screening of a film with the aim of educating, informing, and promoting empathy towards people suffering from Alzheimer's.

The Culture Councilor, Nayma Beldjilali, has emphasized "the work that the museum has been doing since 2012 to bring its collections closer to the most vulnerable groups, and especially the journey it has undertaken hand in hand with the Alzheimer's Association of Alicante, with which we work side by side with the objective of reducing the daily effects of the disease in users and promoting their development through memories via art." "Thanks to the activities that will be developed during the coming week at the museum, we will be able to learn firsthand about the characteristics and consequences of this disease, which increasingly affects more people," the councilor noted.

This year's theme is "The future of museums in communities in constant change," focusing on how museums can navigate and contribute to a world experiencing profound social, technological, and environmental changes.

The City Council (MACA, Las Cigarreras, and MUSA), the Provincial Council (MARQ, MUBAG, and the Juan Gil-Albert Alicante Institute of Culture), The Ocean Race Museum, the Museum of the University of Alicante, the University Headquarters City of Alicante, and the Museum of Waters of Alicante, come together again to offer a carefully curated program for all audiences.

This morning the presentation to the media took place at the University Headquarters and was attended by the institutional representatives of the different administrations involved.

The MACA hosts the 'Black cinema: audiovisual resonances from Africa and the diaspora' cycle, inspired by Kara Walker

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
The Museum of Contemporary Art in Alicante (MACA) will host from November 18 to 21 the film cycle 'Black cinema: audiovisual resonances from Africa and the diaspora', inspired by the work of artist Kara Walker and curated by Beatriz Leal, a researcher specializing in contemporary African art and cinema. The sessions will take place on all four days of the cycle, at 6:00 p.m., with free admission.

This film cycle is programmed and inspired by the work of Kara Walker and the exhibition 'Burning Village' which was shown at MACA from February to September of this year and which will be on display until February 2026 at the IVAM, Centre Julio González in Valencia.

The five fiction titles that make up the cycle are the work of two female directors and two male directors of African and African American origins, pioneers in a vanguard and critical art that frees itself from European references and seeks its own grammar and references. In line with Kara Walker's research into form and mastery of artistic techniques that she employs to delve into the historical and psychological aftermath of slavery and social injustice, the films have been selected for their thematic, poetic, historical and geographical connections with the artist's production.
