Book Presentation "Beloved Lovers" by Raquel López

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on

Beloved Lovers is the first work that Raquel López offers us with her own texts. Stories that were created for this production and that were later published in a book with the same name.

It is a simple, intimate show, sometimes irreverent, other times tender, but above all very humorous. It does not aim to make an apology for adultery nor to find out if the person to your right is a lover or if the one on the other side has the status of a mistress. You also don't have to confess whether it's a one-night affair or if it celebrates anniversaries.

Women's Perspectives Festival 2013

Routes with women's names

MACA, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Alicante, wants to join this commendable initiative sponsored by MAV, Women for the Visual Arts, which aims to give visibility to art created by women. The purpose of the "Women's Perspectives" Festival is to promote and highlight the fundamental role that women play in all professional fields of the visual arts. Until now, the festival linked the main cultural entities and spaces in Madrid and its community, but in this edition it is extended to the entire national territory.

The notorious scarcity of works in the permanent collections of museums makes it almost impossible to enjoy the work of women in exhibition halls. MACA wants to highlight (although in a very small percentage, 12.1%) the presence of works by female artists in the permanent exhibitions, and thus works by Sonia Delaunay, COLEC-002, Soledad Sevilla, Carmen Calvo, Victoria Civera, Ángeles Marco, Amparo Tormo and Esther Ferrer can be enjoyed.

In the temporary exhibition that we present during this period from January 25 to April 7, titled "As a Form of Reflection," works by Montserrat Soto and Susy Gómez are included, which are also occupying prominent places on the Ground Floor of the Museum.

As a result of the installation of all these works, we will establish for this Women's Perspectives Festival an educational itinerary that explores feminine creation throughout all the spaces of the museum from basement level 1, ground level, level 1 and level 2, establishing possible connections between works and artists. Guided visits to approach these 10 works in different formats, techniques and media: painting, drawing, sculpture, collage, graphic work and photography from 1962 to 2004. Visits that highlight the importance of art made by women and at the same time denounce the scarcity of its representation.

Presentation of "The Feather Collector"

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
By Ana Matey

"The Feather Collector" is a procedural work by Ana Matey (Madrid, 1978) composed of drawings, videos, photographs, installations, and individual, collective, and participatory actions—the performances that center this proposal—which the artist generates in a specific manner according to the space in which it is presented and according to the stage in which the creative process itself finds itself.

Ana Matey defines "The Feather Collector," her alter ego, as an individual "tired of the frenetic pace of moving through and doing in daily life, of the continuous doing, producing, achieving, competing, possessing, being more, having more…"; a figure that rebels against the acceleration of Western society from the intimate search for emptiness and silence.

It all began seven years ago in Normandy, a place that Ana Matey chose at a specific moment in her life to distance herself from the accelerated pace of the city. In that new environment, away from the noise of the world, she began a daily ritual in the form of long walks in which she dedicated herself to collecting feathers. That repeated act of walking and gathering feathers, conceived as a conscious and full way of living/feeling the body and of observing/feeling what surrounds us, gave rise to a doubt: when is a feather more free?, when it is united with the rest of the feathers, which like it have their function as part of another body? or when it detaches and remains alone without clear function at the mercy of wind, water, or another body giving it movement?

This existential question activated a branching artistic process riddled with great enigmas about our way of living, individually and collectively. For Ana Matey, feathers are "bodies" that lie upon the earth, small bodies that in the collector's actions are presented trapped, liberated, feathers that take flight again, feathers that are lost along the way, feathers that become part of another body again…

Through all the artistic media she uses (drawing, photography, installation, actions…), Ana Matey invokes strong poetic images. The ever-present feathers are surrounded by a symbolic universe populated by ice, water, flour, eggs, threads, breath, mold…elements, all of them, that are in the process of transformation and that carry within themselves the fundamental idea of constant rebirth.

International Performance Festival

8 Open Action

'SUSPENDED'

The 8th edition of the International Open Performance Art Festival takes place between two cities: Alicante and Murcia; and has been organized by their most avant-garde cultural spaces: the Museum of Contemporary Art (MACA) and Las Cigarreras Contemporary Culture, both in Alicante; and the Centro Párraga (Research and development space for the performing arts), in Murcia.

Open Performance is a festival conceived by and for the study, development and knowledge of 'Performances', an artistic discipline on the rise that has difficulty accessing more traditional circuits. All the artists and theorists participating in this eighth edition have extensive international experience in the field of 'Performance'. They are Bartolomé Ferrando, Margarita Aizpuru, Paco Linares, Ángela García, Ana Matey, Nieves Correa, Fernando Baena, Yosem, Abel Loureda, Yolanda Pérez Herreras, María José García and Domix Garrido.

'Performance' or action art is a transversal artistic expression that draws from the various disciplines and current artistic languages, difficult to classify due to its hybrid nature. The concept 'Suspended' is nothing more than appropriate when applied directly to its essence: the state of transit, of not belonging anywhere, without precise or agreed-upon definition, suspended between two, three or four dimensions.

Scenic art, plastic art, technological, musical, poetic, philosophical, architectural? Everything and nothing at the same time. How do these such extensive parameters condition the action artist? The suspension in the midst of their creation, the involuntary contamination or the provoked contagion is the basis for the theme chosen for this event: 'Suspended', with all the cultural and social meaning that this expression carries. 'Suspended' will offer a new point of view, a theoretical and practical revelation not without confrontation.

8Open Performance is:

1- A co-production between Las Cigarreras Contemporary Culture, MACA, Centro Párraga in Murcia, the Acción!MAD Association in Madrid, the Open Performance Association in Murcia and the State Secretariat for Culture of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport.

2- An exhibition-display of 'performances' and their creative processes by the participating artists.

3- It consists of a theoretical section focused on lectures, meetings and round tables led by the participating speakers, researchers and 'performers'.

4- It takes place in open and closed spaces for the realization of the actions (art centers and public spaces).

5- It will have graphic documentation of actions and lectures through photographs and video recordings.

6- It will be extensively disseminated through new technologies and traditional media.

The work "Anou et Ouna" by the group La Luciole Écarlate is a story without text in which the characters are puppets manipulated in plain sight; timeless and universal, which project their shadow and lead the spectator to a world of reverie where everyone can create their own story.

Between dream and reality, a reflection of our desires and our fears. The aestheticism and poetry of this French creation is an invitation to an inner journey.
