Francisco Farreras

[Farreras Ricart, Francisco]

Barcelona, Spain, 1927 - Madrid, Spain, 2021

Born in Barcelona in 1927, but trained in Madrid and Paris. Due to family circumstances, he settled in Madrid in 1943 and there came into contact with Vázquez Díaz and studied Fine Arts at San Fernando. His first individual exhibition was held at the Biosca Gallery. From 1953 his work is oriented in a figurative-geometric line, with works in which a cold color palette predominates: greys, whites, blacks. In 1955 he begins his experiments in the field of abstraction and his collaborations with the architectural field: murals, stained glass windows, and a renewal in his pictorial technique thanks to the introduction of a new element: paper. The painter gives his works the denomination of "collage number...", collage that he creates with mathematical precision and exactitude. Collages in which everything is calculated and measured to the maximum and which occasionally show a great dramatic charge.
