The Fundación Mediterráneo Collection was designed to become a reference point for Spanish art of recent decades thanks to the effort made by the institution over the years and the people it trusted to build it. It demonstrates a deep knowledge of artistic reality and makes the collection essential for understanding Spanish art of the second half of the 20th century. As a result of profound reflection, the collection reveals the richness of an artistic period spanning the last 40 years, so generous, filled with hope, energy, disenchantment, excess and naivety… but also with reflection, denunciation, commitment, adventure… Works by artists such as Antoni Tàpies, Joan Brossa, Manuel H. Mompó, Hernández Pijoan, Equipo Crónica, Equipo Realidad, Eduardo Arroyo, Esther Ferrer, Juan Hidalgo…coexist alongside a new generation with works by Jordi Teixidor, José Mª Yturralde, Soledad Sevilla, Carmen Calvo, Eva Lootz, Joan Cardells, Jaume Plensa, Francesc Torres… while the country becomes internationalized, builds an art market and creates museums and art centers. Works by Juan Muñoz, Cristina Iglesias, Rogelio López Cuenca, Ignasi Aballí, José Manuel Broto, José Mª Sicilia, Miguel Angel Campano, Juan Uslé, Miquel Barceló, Victoria Civera, Ángeles Marco, Eulalia Valldosera, Pedro G. Romero, Joan Fontcuberta, Txomin Badiola, Pello Irazu… A period in which several generations of artists coexist in a normalized way, enriching each other mutually and rediscovering the persistence of the essential.
