Art Galleries. Concepts, Histories and Other Particularities

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on

Presentation of the book by Pedro Marín Boza Presented by: Begoña M. Deltell

Art galleries are essential for understanding contemporary art and the development of its most innovative artistic trends. They are the precursors of what will later appear in museums and institutions and are creators of cultural content. However, most texts that reflect on them do so from the perspective of the art market. What is an art gallery? How do they work? Why are they important? What are gallery spaces like? What has been their historical evolution? What moment are they in? What will their future be? The book addresses these questions by tracing the history of art galleries, from conceptual and practical issues to reflections on the expectations and challenges of the future, while defining the moment and the conditions in which they emerged and their fascinating evolution.

Ramón Esteve "Design as Sensory Experience. From the City to the Object".

In this presentation, we explore an experiential vision of design, unified by architecture and encompassing all scales, from urban planning projects to object design. We analyze the importance of production processes, both industrial and artisanal, in defining design details that emphasize the conceptualization of each work. We focus on the sensory perception of spaces, conceived as 'design ecosystems', with the aim of promoting the well-being of inhabitants.

Microworlds: Hidden Art in Plain Sight

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on

Discover a hidden and fascinating world through the microscope in the workshop "Microworlds: Hidden Art in Plain Sight". We will explore the complex organic forms of a museum artwork, revealing details and textures that normally go unnoticed. Inspired by this invisible beauty, each participant will be able to reinterpret these patterns and fragments in their own fanzine, creating a unique publication that captures the essence of this hidden world and transforms it into art.

Spun Portraits

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on

We will explore the work of Esther Ferrer, with special attention to her self-portraits. Through the embroidery technique we will use threads to intervene in our photographs by creating self-portraits full of creativity and personal meaning. Together we will explore themes such as identity, self-expression, and the connection between art and the body.

Encounters with local artists. José María Morán Berruti

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
Big words

Palabras mayores arrives at MACA to go beyond the apparent. Because museums are places where we discover and learn but also spaces conceived for citizens to experience and reinvent.

As a result of these meetings, the Group proposes the creation of a platform to give visibility to artists who live in Alicante. This pilot project at MACA, titled Visibility: an open window to the local creator, aims to make known different Alicantine creators, deepen and expand knowledge about contemporary art and learn to look at the collections housed in MACA from another perspective. On this occasion, we will speak with José María Morán Berruti, artist and ceramicist.

...more than just a conference center.... MirAcle architects

MirAcle architects. Sonia Miralles Mud and Arturo Calero Hombre "...something more than a congress center..."

The beach is the public space par excellence. This is where our proposal for the Alicante congress center starts: it is not just about building a structure, but creating a great public space. The proposals and locations that over the last sixty years have tried to make the construction of the palace a reality are so varied that if we were to combine them all on a plan, we would almost be drawing the most significant references and identities of the city: its coast, its neighborhoods, its mountain, its history, its castle, its port and the sea… something more than a congress center…

Information

The content of the course-workshop will focus on the conceptual, visual, theoretical and practical aspects of performance in interrelation with gender discourses and positions and feminist practices.

From the origins of performance and body art in general, to these recent years in which we have witnessed a revival of this artistic practice, different generations of artists have developed mechanisms and languages, and have opened paths as specific and forceful in the territory of performance as to speak of the importance, in its evolution, of female presence and even of feminist performances.

Discourses on the body, in the first decades, to which would have to be added the paradigm of gender identity from the 1980s onwards, coincide with a change in attitude in art.

After 1970, many women developed specifically feminist works. There was an increase in works that reinserted the experiences of being a woman into art practice.

From the second half of the eighties, and especially in the nineties, changes were going to occur in the sense of opening to a new aesthetic that rediscovers happenings and performance, while re-analyzing the relationships of the body and performance in contemporary societies.

For all these reasons, students will be informed about what performance carried out by women artists has meant from gender perspectives and feminist practices. And this by carrying out a theoretical-practical journey, with numerous visualizations in class, which will be explained and analyzed and debated, of performances carried out by the artists, in their different tendencies, approaches and practices, from the sixties to the present day, both at the level of our country and internationally.

Objective

The fundamental objective of the course is to inform/train in the field of performance from artistic, as well as gender and feminist perspectives, emphasizing the study of historical development, women artists and performance trends, their fusions and crossbreeding with other artistic areas and their exhibition in different spaces and modes of intervention and exhibition.

This information and training will be carried out by the course/workshop instructor who will teach it herself, incorporating performance practices, through a competition among the students, of which Margarita Aizpuru will select 4 performance projects to be carried out at MACA, within a Cycle organized for this purpose in 2025.

Methodology

Phase 1

Theoretical-practical course, accompanied by abundant and varied audiovisual material, on performances, their tendencies, practices and interventions. The discourses and analysis of performances and performative works will be accompanied by visualization of performances by different artists on video and fixed projections, which will serve as a documentary basis for the debate and discussion that will accompany the course at all times.

Phase 2

Performance competition for course/workshop students. As established in the "Performance Competition" section in the last section of this information.

Now-here man. Andrés Corchero

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
MACA Live

Now-here man is a solo that is born from the desire to dance based on songs that, for some reason I cannot explain, evoke memories, awaken emotions or stimulate my brain and my body. Songs that make me laugh, cry, think, feel moved... Songs, many of them well-known and that, by themselves already transmit emotion. With now-here man I attempt, during the minutes that each song lasts, to unite and move those who listen to them while they observe my body existing in movement. It occurred to me after listening to the song Nowhere Man by The Beatles. This combination of "now and here" gives me the possibility to dance each day in a different place and also decide which song or songs I will use in each moment and place. This also allows me the flexibility of the duration of the performance.

Likewise, now-here man is a type of performance that I can construct in the place where I perform it, combining elements decided previously, with others that depend on the site chosen to carry out the performance. The performance space determines to a great extent the final composition, making the piece, in this specific case, a site specific.
