RGB Magazine #07

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on

RGB PHOTOGRAPHIC CULTURE, a cultural management initiative from Alicante directed by photographers Carlos Balsalobre and David Santacruz, presents the contemporary photography magazine RGB Magazine #07 'HER'.

The event will launch a series of actions aimed at revitalizing Alicante's cultural landscape and promoting citizen participation around contemporary photography. These actions consist of an exhibition and a series of parallel activities (guided tours, lectures, children's workshops and concerts) that will take place at the Municipal Arts Center of Alicante, during the month of February 2025.

With the eleven new additions in this edition, there are 188 photographers from the Province of Alicante who have participated to date in one of the magazines published by RGB photographic culture.

The RGB Magazine #07 'HER' project has been selected in the 2024 public call for subsidies for the development of cultural and artistic projects by the Culture Department of the Alicante City Council.

RGB Magazine #07 'HER'

The contributions of the participating authors through public call have made possible the production of the seventh issue of RGB Magazine. A total of 119 authors submitted 198 photographs, of which 62 works were selected. The proposed theme 'HER' has generated as many creative responses as there are perspectives expressed by the selected authors.

Multidisciplinary artist Pepa Marhuenda is the guest author in RGB Magazine #07 'HER'. In this issue she presents her most recent and unpublished photographic series titled Teenager. A work that moves between sculpture and photography, whose nexus is a barbed wire that acts as an ambivalent object, both physical and conceptual. At the magazine presentation she will be accompanied by the Associate Professor of Artistic Education at the University of Valencia, AMPARO ALONSO-SANZ, with whom she will dialogue about her career.

During the presentation, harpist Alba Asensi will perform live an original work composed especially to accompany the projection of the works that make up the magazine.

The iconic Aural Gallery of Alicante, one of the great institutions of our city's artistic landscape in recent decades, is the entity collaborating in this issue 7. Straddling recognition and tribute, we wished to capture in our pages the intense and constant effort of this art gallery that has carried the name of Alicante far beyond our borders.

The 'HER' design of the magazine cover is by Alicante designer María Cano.

Tribute Concert to Eusebio Sempere

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on

Eusebio Sempere was a passionate and curious experimenter in artistic expression. And music was no exception to this. Numerous were his approaches to avant-garde composers of the 1960s and 70s in Spain, such as Luis de Pablo, Cristóbal Halffter or Tomás Marco.

Concert performed by Lumina Ensemble with the collaboration of Óscar Martí on percussion and conducted by broadcaster Eva Sandoval (Radio Clásica-RNE). Free admission until capacity is reached.

This tribute concert is performed on the occasion of the Sempere Year to commemorate the centenary of the birth of artist Eusebio Sempere (Onil, Alicante, 1923-1985). Organized by the Alicante City Council and coordinated by MACA, Museum of Contemporary Art of Alicante with the support of the Department of Education, Culture, Universities and Employment of the Valencian Regional Government.

Deep listening'. Corodelantal

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on

'Deep Listening'. Corodelantal (with Spanish subtitles)

Pauline Oliveros was the most relevant composer of the United States. She created a method of making music that she called 'Deep Listening'. In May 2024, film director Daniel Weintraub launches this wonderful two-hour documentary, which he presents in Kingston (New York) last May.

Sonia Megías, friend and student of Pauline Oliveros, brings the deep listening practices of the American artist to Alicante through the CoroDelantal MACA, and on this occasion, after conversations with Weintraub, presents the documentary about Pauline in two one-hour sessions, accompanied by performances that the American artist herself sent to CoroDelantal in 2015 and that will be carried out together with a debate about listening, moderated by Megías.

Flow 81, Architecture LAB: "Swimming Against the Current"

In retrospect, looking back, what has brought us to where we are and what will take us to where we want to go is very simple: being true to ourselves, to our original idea, and to what resonates with us. This seems very easy and straightforward, but it is not. Along the way, you encounter many obstacles that cause that flow to carry you in a current where you lose your focus and essence. This talk is about how to swim against the current in this world and how it is possible if you have the right "stones."

The Calidesa

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on

Author: Marta Barceló

Company: Coma 14 teatro

La Calidesa presents us with six stories about loneliness and friendship. Six situations of silence and deserted landscapes, characters lost in places of unwanted life to which the presence and companionship of another person have shed some light under which they can continue.

These six capsules will open us to everyday realities, in a society in which the everyday already encompasses the entire world: emigration, the aging of the world population, international mobility, the consumer society model, the commodification of being, etc. The initially proposed themes speak of immigrant caregivers whom distance prevents from being able to care for their children, the loneliness of night truck drivers, friendships that last a lifetime, applications for renting company/commodification of friendship, or unaccompanied immigrant minors, among others.

Loneliness is silent and advances slowly, sometimes we don't even notice it, but it goes on conquering spaces and, by the time we become aware of it, the damage is already deep and structural. LA CALIDESA is a call for care, an alert launched to our lives so that we return to conquering shared spaces and shed light on possible loneliness of our own or others', so that we value and strengthen friendship.

Random Taranto. The Chachi

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
MACA Live

Two women eat sunflower seeds in a park, or at the door of a house, or in a courtyard. They share a common space, a conversation, the intimacy of silence. Taranto comes from the mining area of Almería. Originally it is a primitive, simple, dry chant, without guitar, that was born from the need to sing freely.

In this piece of scenic research there is a nakedness that accompanies us and with which we experiment. Respecting the structure of the traditional tablao, we investigate how the encounter between dance and chant can give way to the random to transform itself. Without seeking something concrete, irreverent gesturality appears, humor, chance. Dance and chant modify themselves without breaking completely and what happens we integrate, as in life, to keep dancing.

Elena Orte: "Ecosystem Design at the Gabriel García Márquez Library in Barcelona"

Elena Orte is a graduate architect and holds a Master's degree in Advanced Architectural Design from ETSAM at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. In 2005, she co-founded the SUMA studio in Madrid together with Guillermo Sevillano. She is a lecturer at the IAAC in Catalonia and at the IE in Madrid, and has been an Assistant Professor at ETSAM. Recently, her studio won the Emerging EU Mies Award 2024. She has participated in international juries, seminars and workshops, and her projects have been published in prestigious architecture magazines.

SUMA has won national and international competitions, including libraries and public housing in Spain. Their work has been awarded multiple times, such as the Mies van der Rohe Emerging Award 2024, Best Public Library of the Year 2023 (IFLA), and the First Prize COAM 2023, among others.

The Gabriel García Márquez Library, inaugurated in 2022 in the Sant Martí de Provençals neighborhood, Barcelona, has transformed a "non-place" —a former parking lot behind a police station— into a vibrant civic center. Known as the "Guggenheim of La Verneda," this library stands on an elevated plaza that expands public space and improves pedestrian circulation. Beyond being a knowledge center, the library responds to historical demands of the neighborhood, providing a space for meeting and social cohesion.

The building's design, inspired by volumes stacked like books, combines a laminated wood structure and steel elements, achieving the largest exposure of wood in Europe to date. Accredited with LEED Gold certification, the library stands out for its sustainability strategies, such as photovoltaic panels, rainwater reuse, and a ventilated facade.

Organized around a triangular courtyard, the library offers versatile spaces that promote social interaction and the exchange of ideas. Its innovative design has been recognized as the Best Public Library in the World in 2023 and the Mies van der Rohe Emerging Award 2024. Since its opening, it has strengthened social bonds in the neighborhood, becoming a cultural and social landmark, affectionately known as a "Palace of the People". Organizes: Santiago Varela

Legacies and Creation: Contemporary Art. Visual Artists

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on

The Alicantino Institute of Culture Juan Gil-Albert held on September 27 at the MACA, the second panel within the "Legacies and Creation" conference, under the title "Contemporary Art. Visual Artists". Free admission until capacity is reached.

The precariousness and lack of resources of artists, especially older ones, and the safeguarding of their legacies is the main topic on this occasion. We will try to understand this problem firsthand through the contributions of artist, museum and gallery, and to learn about possible solutions given the widespread abandonment at the state level.

The panel will be composed of Eva Lootz, a visual artist who recently donated part of her work to the National Museum Reina Sofía Art Center; José de la Mano is a gallery owner who has been working for some years with the estates of national and international artists; and Raquel Gómez del Val, who is responsible for the Department of Artwork Registration at the National Reina Sofía Art Center Museum. They are exceptional guests who, through their testimonies, will give us the opportunity to learn about examples that will serve as reference and will surely prove to be inspiring.

Words without barriers

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on

The group will hold a special session under the name "Words Without Barriers".

The Palabras Mayores group, a mediation project between the museum and people over 60 years old, presents this inclusive and creative proposal that combines the poetic, visual, and plastic arts. The session will begin with an open discussion table on museum accessibility for all kinds of groups, opening a dialogue that invites rethinking cultural spaces as truly inclusive environments. Subsequently, a creative workshop will be developed in which, inspired by the MACA collections, participants will write texts, take photographs, make videos or create plastic artworks that represent their visions and experiences about museums and accessibility.

Coordination and mediation: Juan Diego Cerdá.
