The MACA brings Sempere closer to more personal through two temporary exhibitions

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
Eusebio Sempere is the absolute protagonist of the two exhibitions that the Museum of Contemporary Art in Alicante presented this morning in an event attended by Nayma Beldjilali, councilor for Culture; Pilar Tébar, general director of Cultural Heritage of the Valencian Regional Government and Rosa Castells, curator of the exhibitions and conservator of the MACA. Both exhibitions of the Alicante artist Eusebio Sempere, produced by the City Council of Alicante thanks to the financial contribution of the Regional Government, bring to the general public the most personal and unknown side of the most internationally known Alicante artist and one of the most relevant Spanish artists of the second half of the twentieth century.

EL MACA presents "Moving forward, Looking back" [Avanzando, mirando atrás], the second exhibition formed entirely by works from the Michael Jenkins and Javier Romero Collection

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
Moving forward, Looking back, Avanzando, mirando atrás, is the second exhibition organized from the extensive collection donated by Michael Jenkins and Javier Romero to MACA, bringing together on this occasion the work of fifty-eight artists of different nationalities, working in very diverse artistic media, and drawing an equal balance between women and men artists.
This exhibition addresses approaches that can be applied equally to artistic work, to the work of institutions dedicated to contemporary art and also, to the task of Michael and Javier as collectors, who consider the relevance of bearing witness to the present, but understanding the need to keep an eye on the past in order to build and understand the current moment and also to glimpse the future.
Knowing the artistic past is fundamental to telling what is happening today in art. This knowledge allows us to tell the history of art not as isolated episodes, but as interconnected ones, following the trace of what happens, seeking the initial seeds and the interwoven threads, in order to complete a more precise reading of the complex and extensive contemporary artistic production. The MACA presents the Bruno Munari exhibition in Alicante

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
The Museum of Contemporary Art in Alicante presents in Alicante an adapted version of its spaces of the first exhibition dedicated to Bruno Munari in our country, which took place in Madrid between February and May of this year. Co-organized with the Juan March Foundation, the exhibition travels to MACA to continue at the Juan March Foundation Museum in Palma and the Museum of Spanish Abstract Art in Cuenca thanks to the agreement between these institutions.

There are artists who have had a significant influence on twentieth-century culture but who, however, are not well enough known. Bruno Munari (Milan, 1907-1998), whom Picasso defined as "a Leonardo of our time," is one of those paradoxical cases.

Through a selection of more than 150 works, the exhibition curated by Marco Meneguzzo, Manuel Fontán del Junco and Aida Capa covers all aspects of Bruno Munari's artistic production and demonstrates the breadth of media used by the author in his plastic and visual research, always experimental and innovative. EL MACA presents Overture. Beyond the Maps, the exhibition that serves as the presentation of the Michael Jenkins and Javier Romero Collection

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
Overture. Beyond the Maps is the title of this exhibition, which presents 70 works from among the two hundred ninety-one donated. Overture because it opens and serves as a presentation of an extensive collection that seeks to eliminate not only geographic hierarchies, but also hierarchies of disciplines and artistic media, generational boundaries, gender or identity, individual or group work, or hierarchies that may apply to the diversity of formal or conceptual approaches in art to offer a vision that goes beyond maps, beyond any kind of preestablished and hermetic artistic boundary. Opening our perspective.
The proposed selection reflects the variety of themes and narratives that artists have been exploring in the social and political context, in order to stimulate critical thinking and offer a clearer and more faithful image of reality. We also wanted to highlight the high presence of women artists in the collection, and they constitute half of the artists included in this presentation. We have also selected several artists of color from the notable group whose works are represented in the collection. Finally, it was important to highlight the presence of Alicante-based artists, for which reason we have included the work of ten of them, in order to create a reading that, aspiring to the global, understands the local, the most immediate, as fundamental.
Thus, trying to eliminate chronological and territorial boundaries, we propose that in this first installation artists from different generations and geographic contexts coexist and that cross-dialogues be constructed between the selected works. More information in the full note.

The MACA presents "Deprogramming the Drama" with Eulàlia Valldosera as the protagonist

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
The Museum of Contemporary Art in Alicante presents two works by Eulàlia Valldosera: The Fall. Leaving the Flames to Fall into the Embers from 1996 and Family Ties from 2012. And two photographs from the series The Navel of the World from 1993. The first two works belong to the Mediterranean Foundation Collection on deposit at the MACA. Family Ties is a series owned by the artist.
With multiple meanings, intriguing and complex, The Fall is a landmark in the history of art of the 1990s, one of the most significant installations by the Catalan artist and its assembly has become a challenge since it has not been shown to the public for more than twenty years. It is a fundamental work in the artist's trajectory, a complex and enigmatic installation that speaks of an emotional accident, the impossibility of escaping a situation even when attempting different behaviors. The very questioning of the couple in their domestic environment, a story devoid of narration that unfolds in the space where the spectator finds themselves trapped as both witness and architect of the problem.
Family Ties is a series of photographs of intimacy and highlights the visible and hidden emotional relationships that family members experience, enjoy or suffer. Complex and inevitable implications that redefine the very model of family in continuous transformation. The real image and its shadow appear and coexist in the same space, they overlap, fragment, and combine into a final image like a collage of transparencies: the visible reality is made up of many layers or levels of understanding of the same emotional situation.
The Navel of the World was one of the most transgressive works of Spanish art in the 1990s and a fundamental genesis of Eulàlia Valldosera's work, which renounces the retrograde practice of two-dimensional painting that she was taught. It starts from a banal fact like smoking cigarettes, an element transformed into a metaphor for consumption, meditation and the transience of time. More information in the full note.

The MACA brings Abel Martín's screen printing to the public for the first time

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
The Museum of Contemporary Art in Alicante dedicates for the first time since its inauguration in 2011 an exhibition entirely dedicated to the printed work of Abel Martín.

The work of Eusebio Sempere printed in silkscreen by Abel Martín is well known and a display of technique and craftsmanship. However, the printed work that Abel Martín creates as an artist is very little known. It develops in just four years, from 1968 to 1972 and comprises very few pieces, some of which are shown here.
