Workshop visit with vermouth around the work of artists from the collections. Guided tour by Explicarte
On this occasion, we will direct our attention to the extraordinary artist Hilma Af Klint. She was born on October 26, 1862 in Solna, a municipality north of Stockholm, in Sweden. Daughter of Mathilda Sonntag and Admiral Victor af Klint, the young woman grew up alongside her three siblings within a wealthy family with broad intellectual interests. From an early age, Hilma had access to her parents' large library and immersed herself in readings that awakened her curiosity and thirst for knowledge.
Five years before Kandinski published 'Concerning the Spiritual in Art', a book in which he laid the foundations of non-figurative art, Swedish painter Hilma af Klint had already created her first abstract paintings, thus anticipating one of the most important artistic movements of the early twentieth century.
Hilma af Klint was part of the first generation of European women who were able to study in art schools, but, despite acquiring success as a naturalist painter that allowed her to live from her landscape and portrait paintings, the fact of being a woman left her out of the artistic groups of the time. Although they had shared classrooms, painters continued to believe that creation was an activity that belonged to them and women should dedicate their time to other tasks such as, for example, forming a family.

Workshop visit with vermouth around the work of female artists from the collections. Guided tour by ExplicarteTraditionally, women have been considered second-class citizens in the world of culture. This position was based on a statistic supported by a very limited number of women who had stood out in the field of literature, thought, and the plastic arts. This idea crumbles in the face of a simple consideration, and that is the reduced opportunities they had to develop their personal talents.
