Palabras mayores arrives at MACA to go beyond the apparent. Because museums are places where we discover and learn, but also spaces designed for citizens to experience and reinvent.

This is a mediation project aimed at people over 60 years old who want, first of all, to learn about and reflect on contemporary art, the function of museums, and the vision of both established and emerging creators. On the other hand, the participating individuals will establish synergies with the collections existing in the museum, developing their own narrative based on what they find in the galleries through guided visits, open debates, artistic creation activities, and social and cultural empowerment dynamics.

The main objective is to transform the museum into a laboratory for cultural and artistic experimentation in which participants will contribute their vision and experience to the contents present in the museum, while carrying out an activity that provides them with new knowledge. It is an encounter in which the dialogue between the visitor and the museum takes place through contemporary art and the MACA collections, with the mediation of an educator who will act as a link between both.

As a result of these meetings, the Group proposes the creation of a platform to give visibility to artists living in Alicante. This pilot project at MACA, titled Visibility: an open window to the local creator, aims to showcase different Alicante creators, deepen and expand knowledge about contemporary art, and learn to view the collections housed in MACA from another perspective.

Visibility: an open window to the local creator will materialize with a series of sessions in which an artist will be invited to present their artistic trajectory, sharing their artistic concerns and reflections, the development of their creative process, their techniques, etc.

Big words

The Palabras Mayores group is calling for the last "Meeting with Local Female Creators" until September.

And, on this occasion, the participating creator will be Asun Noales, who has been invited to tell us about her artistic trajectory, share her concerns and reflections, and tell us about her creative process, experiences and life as a creator.

We remind you that "Meeting with Local Female Creators" is a series of talks, more intimate and relaxed than academic and solemn, in which the invited artist will participate in a colloquium, thus generating a space for meeting, approach and dialogue between artists and attendees.

Incandescent Women Artists

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on

Presentation of the short film "Incandescent Women Artists", written and directed by Mairea Seguí Buenaventura.

"INCANDESCENT WOMEN ARTISTS" is an audiovisual work of artistic research, where the aim is to deepen and connect the stories and experiences of some contemporary women artists, related to digitalization, new technologies and other areas of knowledge. In its poetic and narrative form, it approaches the video art technique, reflecting on the impact their works have had. It concludes with proposals for the future of art, documenting their vision of the world and whether art empowers people, whether it drives social movements, and what experiences move the artists.

It focuses especially on those spaces of collective creation and artistic experimentation related to women and art. Because in some way, they served to showcase the avant-garde scene and promote artistic alternatives through computing, the combination of apparently unrelated disciplines (architecture, music, psychology, poetry, mathematics...) and their influence on later artists.

The research concludes by bringing together proposals and perspectives on possible utopias of digital art. A topic that will be addressed in an artistic and poetic manner, through the works and stories compiled from interviews about this collective artistic movement. Prominence is given to the artists and their perception of the process experienced, framed in a specific sociopolitical context. Relating the different artistic manifestations and their importance, both historical, personal, social and cultural. The audiovisual assembly will be composed, in part, of images of the artists' works, previously recorded, to be projected and recorded again in installations and everyday spaces relevant to them and imagined.

The structure of the script is formed in 3 blocks of related themes: Pioneers; Personal-social-cultural influence; Impulses-futures or utopias in art.

The qualitative and exploratory research method proposes as its thesis the influence of art as a process that seeks rarity, wonder and the peculiar to transform a set of particular perspectives into a framework of collective thinking where we rediscover the history and the mark left by these women.

A project designed, directed, produced, and starring mainly Spanish women artists who are part of culture as creators and mediators at the same time, survivors through art at a time in Spain when it was unthinkable that this could happen.

The purpose of the documentary is not so much to serve as a tribute but to propose other ways of approaching the history of the artistic experimentation movement to bring them to the present, incorporating questions related to identity, memory, authenticity, transformation and the future of art.

X ANNIVERSARY M-ARTE Y CULTURA VISUAL MAGAZINE

We celebrate ten years of the M-Arte y Cultura Visual magazine which aims to address art and visual culture from a gender perspective, presenting other perspectives and sensibilities, from the conviction that

to achieve a society of equality between men and women, it is necessary for images to open up to new interpretations, diverse and shared, in the tolerant understanding of differences. That is why it is not a magazine dedicated solely to disseminating what women contribute to art, nor is it made exclusively for female readers.

Conceived by MAV as an open space, with the plural contribution of artists and specialized professionals, we speak about the current state of art and the management of artistic heritage without losing sight of visual symptoms

in our country and in the international panorama, raising reflections and debates of interest to the entire community of visual arts at least in Spanish-speaking countries.

CULTURE, SOCIETY AND INNOVATION

In a hyperconnected world, hyperglobalized, in which consciences and hopes are forged on the network, in a complex world, in constant change, facing great challenges that affect all of humanity, we believe that cultural organizations have a fundamental role to play. They can accompany audiences through these changes, prepare and structure minds, be the crucible of societies more agile in the face of changes brought by digital technology, be the catalysts of more creative societies and more involved in their own future. Thus, in 2022, MuseumWeek will focus on the theme of "culture, society and innovation".

The global theme is about innovation and culture and we will take this opportunity to explore 6 other themes throughout the cultural ecosystem, online and offline:

June 13: #innovationMW

June 14: #creatorsMW

June 15: #freedomMW

June 16: #sexualityMW

June 17: #environmentMW

About the work of...Pamen Pereira, Esther Ferrer, Soledad Sevilla and Ángeles Marco

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
Great artists, plain and simple. February 2022

Guided tour with vermouth for the general public touring the rooms and works of women artists.

Traditionally, women have been considered second-class citizens in the world of culture. This position was based on a statistic supported by a very limited number of women who had stood out in the field of literature, thought, and the plastic arts. This idea crumbles when faced with a simple consideration: the reduced opportunities they had to develop their personal talents.

We will focus on Pamen Pereira, Esther Ferrer, Soledad Sevilla, and Ángeles Marco, attentive to the plastic concerns of their generation and shaped by their sociocultural context.

We will get to know not only their work but also their lives, with the intention of awakening a new perspective that recognizes women's work in overcoming the roles and models imposed throughout the history of art dominated by the male sex.

Free admission until capacity is reached.

Women's Perspectives Festival 2013

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
Routes with women's names

MACA, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Alicante, wants to join this commendable initiative sponsored by MAV, Women for the Visual Arts, which aims to give visibility to art created by women. The purpose of the "Women's Perspectives" Festival is to promote and highlight the fundamental role that women play in all professional fields of the visual arts. Until now, the festival linked the main cultural entities and spaces in Madrid and its community, but in this edition it is extended to the entire national territory.

The notorious scarcity of works in the permanent collections of museums makes it almost impossible to enjoy the work of women in exhibition halls. MACA wants to highlight (although in a very small percentage, 12.1%) the presence of works by female artists in the permanent exhibitions, and thus works by Sonia Delaunay, COLEC-002, Soledad Sevilla, Carmen Calvo, Victoria Civera, Ángeles Marco, Amparo Tormo and Esther Ferrer can be enjoyed.

In the temporary exhibition that we present during this period from January 25 to April 7, titled "As a Form of Reflection," works by Montserrat Soto and Susy Gómez are included, which are also occupying prominent places on the Ground Floor of the Museum.

As a result of the installation of all these works, we will establish for this Women's Perspectives Festival an educational itinerary that explores feminine creation throughout all the spaces of the museum from basement level 1, ground level, level 1 and level 2, establishing possible connections between works and artists. Guided visits to approach these 10 works in different formats, techniques and media: painting, drawing, sculpture, collage, graphic work and photography from 1962 to 2004. Visits that highlight the importance of art made by women and at the same time denounce the scarcity of its representation.

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on

Within the Palabras Mayores program, the MACA hosts a new session of "Encounters with Local Creators," a proposal that seeks to open the museum's doors to the voices that make up the artistic and cultural fabric of our environment.

On this occasion, we welcome artist Aurelia Masanet. With more than forty years of career, Masanet (Alcoy, 1955) has explored textiles, painting, and the fusion of materials to shape intimate landscapes and symbolic universes where the visible and invisible meet. An essential appointment to discover her singular language.

Documentary: "Juana Francés, the Hidden Force"

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on

We begin complementary activities around the new temporary exhibition with the screening of: "COLEC-002, the Hidden Force" by Natalia Molinos and Maxi Velloso. "The Hidden Force: COLEC-002" presents the artistic trajectory of Alicante-born painter COLEC-002 from her birth in Alicante in 1924 until her death in Madrid in 1990, tracing her different creative and life stages through interviews with family members, artist friends, professional colleagues, managers and specialists in contemporary art—and specifically about her figure—who had direct contact with the artist, thus offering a human and professional approach as close and accurate as possible.

The figure of COLEC-002 needs to be vindicated and disseminated in the best possible way and currently, audiovisual language is what most broadly connects with the public, with the documentary form being the best vehicle to achieve this dissemination.

The script interweaves the oral narration of a narrator with interviews with people relevant to COLEC-002's life and images of her work. It features the participation of photographer Jorge Lidiano in a final composition based on his work with mathematical algorithms.

With the support of Generalitat Valenciana, Culture Department of Alicante and MACA, and in collaboration with Casa Mediterráneo and the support of Espejo de Alicante.
