The Eusebio Sempere Collection is made up of works by the artist that the City Council of Alicante has been acquiring since 1978 to the present day. There are more than 500 pieces including drawings, paintings, sculptures and graphic works that span his entire production: from the first sketches, charcoal drawings and oils from the 1940s to the first modern works, watercolors and gouaches on cardboard that the artist created in Paris in the 1950s, paintings on panel begun in the 1960s of which we have remarkable examples through the early 1980s, and sculptures in iron and chrome-plated steel, grilles, based or hanging sculptures, typical of his work in the 1970s. Likewise, the collection includes a very large set of engravings, silkscreens and lithographs that encompasses almost the entirety of his graphic work, a very important body of work, usually created with Abel Martín, his life and work companion. This is, without a doubt, the most complete public collection of works by Eusebio Sempere, one of the most interesting figures in the Spanish artistic landscape of the second half of the twentieth century. It becomes, moreover, a true tribute to Sempere, protagonist of one of the most generous acts toward the city of Alicante: the donation of his art collection to form this museum.
