[R] of Portrait 2025

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on

An art education project that arises from the need to promote effective integration and real accessibility of all to art and culture. It is about taking the Museum outside the museum and through the genre of artistic portraiture and through the application of a multisensory methodology to stimulate students through art. Based on a selection of portraits, we will work on visual, auditory, haptic, olfactory and gustatory stimulation, giving students the freedom to explore, discover, create and enjoy art.

The main objective of this project is to bring the human face in art closer to students through activities that contribute to the general cognitive development of students, focusing especially on the sensory aspect so that students can develop personal balance in relation to feelings and emotions. Furthermore, it seeks to teach them that the world is full of different people, each with a unique face, which makes each person special.

In [R] PORTRAIT], we will trace the history of portraits in art from its beginnings to the present day, through the observation and exploration of different works from the permanent collections of MACA.

In summary, this project is based on art history, specifically on the genre of portraiture, using works of art as tools to foster creative thinking in students through simple, fun and enriching activities. Furthermore, contact with artistic images will provide them with an approach to artistic and visual language, a linguistic perspective that will accompany them throughout their lives.

Creative Box

Sempere's Suitcase is an educational resource for classroom work in which we transform our artist Eusebio Sempere into the prototype of a traveling artist, offering students the opportunity to discover his vital, creative and artistic trajectory through the cities he visits, the artists he meets and the artistic trends he gets to know.

How do we do it? We have prepared a box in which you will find information about the artist, his artistic context and his work, games and playful and sensory materials to get to know Sempere through the manipulation of structures and volumes and cross-curricular proposals. The content is complemented by a series of activities inspired by his works and creative processes.

The Box has traveled to:

IES Enric Valor (EL Campello)

CEIP Mare de Déu de la Salut (ONIL)

IES L`Alluser (Mutxamel)

CEIP L` Aguila (San Vicente del Raspeig)

CEIP Raspeig (San Vicente de Raspeig)

CEIP Mora Puchol (Alicante)

CEIP Prácticas La Aneja

This is a cross-curricular educational project aimed at the educational community that invites you to discover the creation centers and the most important artistic movements of the 20th century through the figure of Eusebio Sempere, promoting artistic expression, research and the circulation of knowledge among students.

We propose to work around the cities where he himself lived, which had great influence on his artistic production, and where the main artistic movements of the 20th century were generated. Paris is the capital of art in the first half of the 20th century, the place of avant-garde movements from Fauvism to Surrealism, Dada or optical-kinetic art; New York takes over as the capital of art in the second half of the 20th century, with the emergence of second avant-garde movements. Back in Spain, Madrid is the city where he meets the Informalist artists. Cuenca participates in the Museum of Spanish Abstract Art and finally Alicante, home to his Museum and a meeting place for Sempere's work in public space.

In the 2024 edition we have worked with Ceip Prácticas La Aneja (Alicante)

IES Altaia

In this tenth edition, the 4th ESO students from IES Altaia have participated in this project. The research topic has revolved around visual poetry, taking as a starting point the work of Joan Brossa exhibited at the MACA and the artist's ability to blur the boundaries between words and images. Through visual poetry, the students have explored the relationships between language, image, and imagination, discovering new forms of artistic and literary expression.

The creative process has had the collaboration of Josep Sou, an artist who works with visual poetry. This process has included both reflection on the work of Joan Brossa and experimentation with different materials and techniques: collages, calligrams, installations, and poetic objects, all with the aim of enhancing their creativity and bringing them closer to contemporary art. The project has encouraged active student involvement, promoting a critical and personal perspective on poetry and the visual arts.

The works and a performance titled No Violència created by the students were presented at the educational center on June 6, 2025 and at the MACA on June 11, with a small exhibition and the presentation of the performance before the 5th and 6th grade students from CEIP San Roque who visited us that day.

IES Playa de San Juan

The 4th year ESO students from IES Playa San Juan were the ones who participated in the 9th edition of Menuts Veïns. The project developed this academic year has revolved around female creativity in the field of textiles. The students had the opportunity to research and work with textile art through the main female creators, from the pioneers of the first avant-garde movements of the 20th century who used textiles as an artistic language to the present day, highlighting its value.

The artist who collaborated on this occasion was Aurelia Massanet. With the artist, the work developed by the students was based on textiles and experimentation with various materials such as twine, wool, ribbons, ... and with different weaving supports such as construction site safety mesh, frames, cardboard, …

The works were exhibited in the annex of the museum's auditorium and presented by the students and participating teachers on June 13, 2024.

IES Cabo de las Huertas

This year, IES Cabo de las Huertas was the educational center that participated in this 8th edition of Menuts Veïns.

The theme chosen by the students was the question of gender and the questioning of roles in contemporary art.

For this occasion, having the collaboration of María Perceval-Graells, who contributed her own and current experience as an artist and woman, was an opportunity to provide a clearer and more precise vision of reality regarding equality in art and in society. Furthermore, having her participation made it possible to bring an artistic vision that enriched the students' work and enabled, throughout the sessions, reflection and questioning of traditional gender roles in contemporary art. This work, carried out by the students with a cross-cutting vision, has fostered critical and reflective thinking in relation to the society in which they live.

As is customary, the works were exhibited at the MACA and presented by the students themselves, who made us participants in their reflections and conclusions.

IES María Blasco de San Vicente and Aire Libre School

The IES María Blasco de San Vicente and the Colegio Aire Libre were the invited educational centers for this academic year.

In this 7th edition of Menuts Veïns, artist Massimo Pisani joined the project, with the aim of combining contemporary artistic creation and education as an instrument of expression, understanding and reflection on volume, geometry and light in space. Fundamental issues for understanding Sempere's work. On this occasion our invited artist was Massimo Pisani.

Having the collaboration of Massimo Pisani, a geometric artist who has known different artists contemporary to Sempere, has allowed a transversal approach and with a perspective of absolute contemporaneity, to the work and figure of Sempere himself. Students and teachers have had the opportunity to learn about the artist from different perspectives: the treatment of light, volume, materials and the different techniques used by Sempere and bring them to our time using current means and resources.

The students' works: sketches, line studies, sculptures, reliefs printed with 3D printers, ...) created and built by them were exhibited at the MACA, together with the work of Eusebio Sempere during the month of June. The opening featured a visit from the students of the center and a concert by the students participating in the project themselves.

IES Jorge Juan

Are we already ROBOTS or is the show beginning?

The IES Jorge Juan de Alicante is the invited educational center for the 2020-2021 academic year. In this 6th edition of Menuts Veïns, Alicante-based artist Aurelio Ayela has joined the project, with the aim of combining contemporary artistic creation and education as an instrument of expression, understanding and reflection on contemporary human problems.

Looking at Juana Francés' work through the eyes of IES Jorge Juan students with the accompaniment of artist Aurelio Ayela. Bringing it into contemporary perspective from multiple approaches: from philosophy, from history, from literature or visual arts. Once again, Menuts Veïns becomes a project for approaching contemporary art in a transversal way. With the languages of new generations: connecting the spirit and denunciation of individual loneliness, the commodification of human beings, miscommunication in a technologically constructed world that Juana Francés questions, students and teachers have delved into how art surprises, awakens, reveals and transforms the society it represents.

IES Miguel Hernández

In its 5th edition, Menuts Veïns was presented with an opportunity that could not be turned down. The project was going to be the umbrella under which a collaboration would develop that would bring together artistic creation and education.

This collaboration was established between the museum, Alicante-based artist Olga Diego, and IES Miguel Hernández, a school that requested to be part of Menuts Veïns, with the aim of incorporating the languages of contemporary artistic creation as instruments of expression, understanding, and reflection of reality in learning processes. Olga Diego creates her sculptures using plastic with the intention that her works make people reflect on the environmental problems generated by this material. IES Miguel Hernández joined the project by incorporating it into the General Annual Programming.

The work designed by Olga Diego and carried out in conjunction with the Technology Department of IES consists of the construction of a floating sculpture in the shape of an island or iceberg that would be installed in the sea for a limited period. It would later be removed from the water and displayed on land.

Its form is a simplified interpretation of the concept of an island. From land, we could see a large spherical section floating in the sea, where the curved line of its surface would barely be interrupted by some mound of plastic rock.

Beneath it, and only through immersion in water, we could contemplate how the construction of the surface extends several meters in depth. Like an iceberg... the island would show there, among the waters of the Mediterranean Sea, its hidden spherical and luminous beauty.

After its exhibition in the sea, it would be displayed at the institute itself and, on International Museum Day, in the Plaza de Santa María, in front of MACA, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Alicante. The project took on such magnitude that other schools joined and collaborated both in the collection of bottles and in the construction of the modules, promoting parallel work around environmental protection.

This year 2020, the pandemic crossed our path and paralyzed our project, leaving it suspended until the return to classes in September, when the three parties of Menuts Veïns 2020 expressed the desire to bring this wonderful proposal to an end.

Floating Island was supposed to be floated in the sea at the end of March. It could not be. But we displayed it at MACA for the surprise and reflection of all our visitors during the months of November and December.

IES Figueras Pacheco

This was the 4th edition of the project and the invited school was IES Figueras Pacheco. This year, for the first time, secondary school students participated with wonderful results. The project stemmed from the Interwar Seminar, organized by the school, in which different classes and teachers participated. By working on the artistic movements of the 20th century Avant-Gardes from different disciplines: Language, Mathematics, Sciences, Philosophy, History and Art, they were able to contextualize and understand them in greater depth.

The result of the work carried out by the students materialized in a splendid exhibition where different plastic interpretations made by the students were displayed around three artistic movements: Bauhaus, Surrealism and Dadaism.
