The MACA celebrates World Alzheimer's Day with a week of activities that relate art to the disease

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
The Museum of Contemporary Art in Alicante MACA has organized a week of activities on the occasion of World Alzheimer's Day, which is celebrated on September 21st. Under the motto "Integrating Innovation," the museum offers, from September 18th to 24th, guided tours, panel discussions, and the screening of a film with the aim of educating, informing, and promoting empathy towards people suffering from Alzheimer's.

The Culture Councilor, Nayma Beldjilali, has emphasized "the work that the museum has been doing since 2012 to bring its collections closer to the most vulnerable groups, and especially the journey it has undertaken hand in hand with the Alzheimer's Association of Alicante, with which we work side by side with the objective of reducing the daily effects of the disease in users and promoting their development through memories via art." "Thanks to the activities that will be developed during the coming week at the museum, we will be able to learn firsthand about the characteristics and consequences of this disease, which increasingly affects more people," the councilor noted.

The MACA exceeds 100,000 visitors for the first time in its history

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
The Museum of Contemporary Art has exceeded 100,000 visitors in 2024 since it opened its doors in March 2011. Specifically, 103,519 people have visited the museum in person, which represents a 15% increase compared to the previous year, when the figure stood at 89,793.

As is now customary, if we analyze the figures carefully, we observe that international visitors are the majority coming to the museum, with a total of 49.57%, while national visitors account for 32.62% and local or provincial visitors represent 17.81%.

Attendees at activities reached 11,387 people. Of the 482 activities developed during this year, 15 were space concessions, with 467 being the museum's own activities.

For its part, in the digital area, the data continues to increase as each year. In 2024, the website had 184,000 visits, while Facebook has 11,340 followers; Twitter 6,324 followers; Instagram 9,223 followers; YouTube 3,728 views and the TikTok channel, created this year, reaches 794 followers.

One of the museum's pillars is education and mediation, and this year MACA has served 3,756 schoolchildren; 312 users in the social education program and 158 visitors during the MACA weekend program.

The museum, as noted by the Culture Councilor, Nayma Beldjilali, "is excellent news that once again the museum continues on the upward trend of recent years, and for the first time in its history surpasses the 100,000 visitor milestone. This is the result of an enormous effort by the entire museum team, who work with such dedication day after day to offer world-class programming both in its exhibitions and in the activities carried out around them".

The MACA hosts the 'Black cinema: audiovisual resonances from Africa and the diaspora' cycle, inspired by Kara Walker

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
The Museum of Contemporary Art in Alicante (MACA) will host from November 18 to 21 the film cycle 'Black cinema: audiovisual resonances from Africa and the diaspora', inspired by the work of artist Kara Walker and curated by Beatriz Leal, a researcher specializing in contemporary African art and cinema. The sessions will take place on all four days of the cycle, at 6:00 p.m., with free admission.

This film cycle is programmed and inspired by the work of Kara Walker and the exhibition 'Burning Village' which was shown at MACA from February to September of this year and which will be on display until February 2026 at the IVAM, Centre Julio González in Valencia.

The five fiction titles that make up the cycle are the work of two female directors and two male directors of African and African American origins, pioneers in a vanguard and critical art that frees itself from European references and seeks its own grammar and references. In line with Kara Walker's research into form and mastery of artistic techniques that she employs to delve into the historical and psychological aftermath of slavery and social injustice, the films have been selected for their thematic, poetic, historical and geographical connections with the artist's production.
