In/Box/2

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on

A society that lives between boxes. It uses them, in hundreds of thousands of shipments that are carried out daily around us almost without us noticing. It inhabits them, because shared living spaces are becoming increasingly oppressive, with the screens of our digital devices being the only windows to the outside. We find ourselves enclosed in fragile and suffocating walls, whether made of cardboard or concrete, of frustration or oblivion.

That is why, from the Palabras Mayores group, they propose that we reflect on this through En/Caja/2, a performance that wanders between happening and artistic intervention, and which will take place in one of the museum's rooms. We invite you to participate in this experience that will take place on Saturday, January 28th, starting at 6 p.m., in which creators and spectators will interact and become the same thing because, after all, all people carry and live in their own boxes.

XVIII Harmonic Procession

CoroDelantal MACA + CoroDelantal de Madrid

Harmonic Procession (sound route) The first harmonic procession took place in 2012 in New York, where I lived thanks to the Fulbright Scholarship. There I realized that people lived outside themselves and that capitalist society forced them to survive and forget who they really are. So I looked for a way to raise their awareness and help them think through a series of questions, and through a sound interval sung or played by all the people who are part of this walk.

On this day we will have the CoroDelantal of the MACA together with the CoroDelantal de Madrid.

Join us with your voice or your instrument! At 6:00 PM at the museum entrance.

International Performance Festival

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
8 Open Action

'SUSPENDED'

The 8th edition of the International Open Performance Art Festival takes place between two cities: Alicante and Murcia; and has been organized by their most avant-garde cultural spaces: the Museum of Contemporary Art (MACA) and Las Cigarreras Contemporary Culture, both in Alicante; and the Centro Párraga (Research and development space for the performing arts), in Murcia.

Open Performance is a festival conceived by and for the study, development and knowledge of 'Performances', an artistic discipline on the rise that has difficulty accessing more traditional circuits. All the artists and theorists participating in this eighth edition have extensive international experience in the field of 'Performance'. They are Bartolomé Ferrando, Margarita Aizpuru, Paco Linares, Ángela García, Ana Matey, Nieves Correa, Fernando Baena, Yosem, Abel Loureda, Yolanda Pérez Herreras, María José García and Domix Garrido.

'Performance' or action art is a transversal artistic expression that draws from the various disciplines and current artistic languages, difficult to classify due to its hybrid nature. The concept 'Suspended' is nothing more than appropriate when applied directly to its essence: the state of transit, of not belonging anywhere, without precise or agreed-upon definition, suspended between two, three or four dimensions.

Scenic art, plastic art, technological, musical, poetic, philosophical, architectural? Everything and nothing at the same time. How do these such extensive parameters condition the action artist? The suspension in the midst of their creation, the involuntary contamination or the provoked contagion is the basis for the theme chosen for this event: 'Suspended', with all the cultural and social meaning that this expression carries. 'Suspended' will offer a new point of view, a theoretical and practical revelation not without confrontation.

8Open Performance is:

1- A co-production between Las Cigarreras Contemporary Culture, MACA, Centro Párraga in Murcia, the Acción!MAD Association in Madrid, the Open Performance Association in Murcia and the State Secretariat for Culture of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport.

2- An exhibition-display of 'performances' and their creative processes by the participating artists.

3- It consists of a theoretical section focused on lectures, meetings and round tables led by the participating speakers, researchers and 'performers'.

4- It takes place in open and closed spaces for the realization of the actions (art centers and public spaces).

5- It will have graphic documentation of actions and lectures through photographs and video recordings.

6- It will be extensively disseminated through new technologies and traditional media.

The Art of Performance. Theory and Practice

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
Esther Ferrer's Performance

At the same time and in the same space, by the same person, theory and practice together: Speaks and acts, acts and speaks. Theorizes and practices, practices and theorizes, and begins again. But it never repeats itself. In the end someone must have understood something, but it is difficult to say who and what has been understood from this discourse on performance.

Because in reality, what is performance?

A hybrid? A torture? A leg-pull? A pleasure? Anything? A surprise? A shame? A boredom? An amusement? A lack of ideas? A new genre? A discovery? An artistic expression? A risk? A joke? A perversion? A gag? A gratuitous act? A challenge? An effort? A scam? A knowledge? A theatrical deviation? A communication? A desire to please? A desire to provoke? A desire to do directly? A new artistic experience? A natural, illegal, adulterous offspring of art? A major genre? A minor genre? A deviation? A path? A dead end? A rupture? An ideal of artistic integration? A practice of artistic integration? A practice of freedom? A search for a new language?

With artist Ester Ferrer, who will perform a performance in one of the museum's spaces.

INTERVENTION IN THE MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART OF ALICANTE

A proposal related to the search for and knowledge of the sensible qualities of urban space and the representations that inhabitants have of them.

Artistic action, in addition to acting on the individual, can awaken collective debate. The installation proposes a journey on two planes (real and virtual), a continuous dialogue between audiovisual language and everyday situations in the city of Alicante.

It is about capturing the character of the city, its sensory identity, transforming an architectural space (The Museum of Contemporary Art of Alicante) into an open space and projection of other spaces.

The staging, of a face-to-face and virtual nature at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Alicante, is situated at a point of balance between the documentary, the theatrical and audiovisual creation. The real and the virtual merge in a dialogued reflection about forms of knowledge and communication through the sensory (art as a form of knowledge).

This central action will be complemented with an audiovisual installation that will remain in the Museum's spaces. Finally, a website will be created, a meeting point between creators and citizens. People and groups will be able to participate by sending sounds, texts, images… This information will serve to build a collective sensory map of Alicante.

Freed from the structure of time and space, I coordinate all points of the universe, wherever I can register them. My mission is to create a new perception of the world. I decipher in a new way a world unknown to you. But it is not enough to show fragments of truth on the screen, separate parts of truth. These parts must be organized thematically so that the whole is also a truth. (Dziga Vertov and Kino-Eye).

Translations of 4'33 by Concha Jerez

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on

Intermedia Performance by Concha Jerez and José Iges. The term translocations provides a brief account of the operations that will come into play in the course of these two works, both belonging to the Intermedia Performance genre. In their respective titles, the duration 4'33" appears as a common element, as it is the temporal measure of the different actions to be developed in them. We chose this temporal pattern for being an emblem of modernity. There are no other explicit references to Cage's aesthetics or thinking behind this gesture.

According to Physics, a translation is a movement in which the position of an object is modified. Translation is also considered an operation on objects. In our case, naturally these notions are employed in a metaphorical way—which also leads us, etymologically, to the notion of transport—although here we are working with light materials and immaterial elements, to which approaches inherited from conceptual practice and from sound and visual actionism are applied.

The translocations of the first work FOUR GUIDED VISITS OF 4'33" are carried out motorically and verbally by Concha Jerez with reference to some works from the Museum of Contemporary Art in Alicante. It is a series of four in situ actions in specific spaces of the Museum's rooms, focusing on a communicative format rooted in museum tradition such as the guided tour, taken here by the author as a Medium. Each of these actions will allow organizing in 4'33" gestures and sounds in the Museum's space among spectators and authors/performers, in a unique and unrepeatable time.

The second work SIX LANDSCAPES OF 4'33" created by Concha Jerez and José Iges, has to do with the disappearance of the real world. What we call reality is nothing but "the dominant fiction, the consensual fiction, the one that denies its character as fiction by passing itself off as reality itself" (Jacques Ranciére). There are therefore countless possible narratives, and artistic fiction should serve to undermine that "consensual fabric of the real." That is what we intend with the entire framework of sounds that merge in the different parts of the work. These sounds come from places and times distant from each other, coexist in a single space and take form in it.

When we proceed this way, we consider that the sound samples employed are more than anecdotes and less than documents. They are "specters."

The double operation of employing sound samples and of doing so to construct new realities—or rather new fictions, new narratives—causes a double disappearance of the real. This operation is a translocation that refers us to those places, beings, spaces; but by projecting them in another context we deprive them of representativeness, we convert them into specters of themselves. The MACA was the venue for the intermedia performance carried out by Concha Jerez and José Iges.

Voices that appear

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on

Dubbing has been a tool through which the Spanish population has approached cinema and shaped its social and political life. In this performance, the silenced voices of women artists from the 1980s will be recovered, when conceptualism, abstraction, or informalism had no place in a moment of escapism and celebration. Experimenting with this cinematographic resource allows us to speculate on new readings of the transition, generating a new un-doubling.
