Workshop of Graphic Music

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on

Discover the intersection between music and visual art in the Graphic Music Workshop, a creative laboratory where sound and image communicate with each other. This space is an invitation to play, experimentation, and collective imagination, in which participants of all ages and levels discover unique forms of expression through graphic scores.

Each session is unique and different. Throughout the workshop you will explore how to draw music and how to sonically interpret visual works, with inspiring examples from artists and composers who have worked on this artistic frontier. Through participatory dynamics, you will learn to create your own graphic scores and make them sound in surprising ways.

It is recommended to bring your own drawing materials. No prior training is necessary.

The architecture table

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on

The Museum of Contemporary Art in Alicante whose collections are formed by works created fundamentally in the twentieth century. They range from the so-called avant-gardes to all the approaches and artistic manifestations that took place in the decades of the second half of the past century. They are expressed on different supports and materials, with diverse dimensions and techniques. In turn, the temporary exhibitions are related to these collections and allow for expanding or deepening some aspects of contemporary chronology. However, contemporary architecture is absent from both the permanent collections and those temporary manifestations.

The architecture of the MACA itself, a project created and directed by the Sancho Madridejos Studio, is a beautiful building of great functional efficiency. The syncopated projection of horizontal and vertical spaces establishes a formal order based on the geometry and texture of the materials used in construction, while revealing a kind of tension resolved by the overhead passage of light, a kind of "felt" spirituality more emotional than real.

The MACA proposes in a conversational format, meetings around art and architecture around the architect's table. In the MACA Library, the last Thursdays of each month, from January to May 2015.

This first cycle will consist of different manifestations. The first and fundamental one will show works by an architect related through his vital and professional activity to the province of Alicante. The selection criterion will be conditioned by the modernity of the proposals, understanding that modernity, first of all, in a chronological sense, attending to those architectures and architects who were protagonists and participants in the advent of contemporaneity. The exhibition of some models will allow for offering three-dimensional models, reclaiming the model as such, as the authors of the Renaissance defended. And to illustrate the complete work process, sketches and preliminary drawings will be shown alongside the project plans and notes developed during the construction process. All of this with the ultimate aim of understanding and grasping in some way the constructed space.

The architect's table, a table from 1912, real and present (deposited in the MACA by its owner Alfonso Navarro Guzmán), serves as an ideological foundation to link the exhibitions and will serve as the material support for the models so that we can traverse, while dreaming, the imagined space.

This project was born with the aim of establishing a connection between contemporary composers dedicated to creating avant-garde art and the public interested in it. Contemporary art faces various challenges—undoubtedly numerous ones—with one of the most recurring being the lack of "understanding" with which the potential audience for contemporary art justifies their disinterest in artistic manifestations.

Contemporary music is not exempt from all these conditions and, at the same time, it is not immune to possible solutions that help normalize current repertoire in the demands of music lovers and integrate it into the cultural programming of cities and concert halls.

Undoubtedly, when a creator speaks about their work with the passion of the creative act and delves not only into their creative processes but also into their motivations and expressive needs, a greater connection with the public is achieved and the path toward acceptance of the work is cleared. It is the project of four saxophonists passionate about their instrument and contemporary music. The members of LUMINA Ensemble combine their efforts for the respectful and committed achievement of high-level musical performances. Lumina refers to the light that continuously permeates our land and shapes us as human beings. Light as a means of union between people who converge in a common project and as a metaphor for our way of understanding musical performance, with proposals through contemporary music.

The ensemble's main objective is the dissemination of repertoire composed from the 21st century onwards. Essential to achieving this goal is collaboration with composers and the premiere of works written for this group, proposing the saxophone quartet as a unique instrument full of timbral and expressive resources at the service of new creation.

Lumina's infinite curiosity about performative action has led them to perform in various concert halls, festivals and concert series both in Spain and in other countries in our region such as the ENSEMS festival (Valencia), the Contemporary Festival of Alicante (ADDA), Kuraia Festival (Bilbao), Contemporary Music Festival (Córdoba), Mostra Sonora (Sueca), International Organ Festival – FIOB (Benidorm), Concerts d´Advent (Alcoi) or their recent participation in the Organistic Festival of Salento (Lecce – Italy), Festival Due Mare (Gallipoli – Italy). They have a first recording titled Terra Lucis, and have participated in Mexican composer Samuel Cedillo's album for the Kairós record label.

Lumina Ensemble is the dedicatee of numerous pieces by renowned authors such as Jesús Torres, Zulema de la Cruz, Eneko Vadillo, Sonia Megías, Oliva Carrión-Arteta, José del Valle, Iluminada Pérez, Ximo Cano, David Leal, Sara Blanco, José Vicente Fuentes Castilla, Diana P. Custodio, M. Eugenia Luc or Voro García.

Lumina Ensemble is composed of: Pablo de la Fuente (soprano saxophone), Javier Carrillos (alto saxophone), Pablo Pardo (tenor saxophone) and José Antonio Suay (baritone saxophone).

During the first stage of childhood, knowledge of the world and of oneself is acquired through the experience provided by the senses.

For this reason, it is fundamental that we provide stimulation for each of the senses individually, but also together, since they are not isolated from one another.

These laboratories are a field of learning and discovery and an opportunity to showcase high-quality books both for what they tell and for how they tell it. From 5 to 12 years old.

White Night 2015

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on

The city of Alicante will celebrate, for the first time, the White Night on July 24th, a proposal that stems from collaboration between Alicante's museums and art centers. The technicians from the city's museums have held various meetings and are already working on an attractive offer of activities for that date.

The White Night is a cultural initiative that was created in Paris in 2002 and has been joined by other European capitals and major cities such as Rome, Bucharest, Riga, Amsterdam, and Brussels. The purpose is to enjoy contemporary artistic creation through different activities and free cultural events, thereby promoting citizen participation.

Alicante proposes its first White Night with an attractive cultural offer that will be announced at a Press Conference in the coming days. The initiative is jointly organized by MARQ Archaeological Museum, MACA Museum of Contemporary Art of Alicante, MUBAG Gravina Museum of Fine Arts, MUA Museum of the University of Alicante, Las Cigarreras, Volvo Ocean Race Museum, and Museum of Waters of Alicante, which will remain open until 1:00 a.m. on July 24th. The project aims to bring together all types of public and private cultural initiatives, promote the participation of Alicante residents, individually or collectively, and suggests rediscovering the city with the opening of different spaces that are not usually accessible to the public at night.

In Spain, this initiative is already being developed in cities such as Madrid, Burgos, Málaga, Albacete, and Barcelona, with other cities such as La Laguna, Badajoz, Teguise, Alcalá de Henares, Zaragoza, Nerja, Seville, Almería, Cáceres, Oviedo, and Granada joining in.
