Reminiscences. Art and Culture Against Alzheimer's 2024
In this twelfth edition of the program "Reminiscences: Art and Culture Against Alzheimer's," music will play a central role in the artistic experience we offer to participants.
In this year dedicated to exploring the connections between art and memory, we have carefully selected works that not only capture the essence of art itself, but are also enriched by the magic and influence of music. The choice to incorporate music in this edition is based on the growing understanding of how sensory experiences, particularly music, can trigger memories and emotions in those affected by Alzheimer's.
The combination of visual expressiveness and the powerful influence of music will provide us with a unique opportunity to stimulate memory and foster emotional connection.
Throughout this edition, we will guide participants on a journey in which visual and musical harmony merge, providing a space in which creativity and memory intertwine in a meaningful way. This approach aims not only to offer artistic stimulation but also to contribute to the emotional and cognitive well-being of those who participate in the "Reminiscences" program.
The selection of specific works for this edition has been carefully designed considering the relationship between visual art and music. For example, the connection between music and surrealist poetry will be explored in the context of Joan Miró's work, with outstanding composers such as Erik Satie, Edgar Varèse, Johann Sebastian Bach and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, all of whom were favorites of the artist. Likewise, we will immerse ourselves in the rhythm present in Astor Piazzolla's Argentine tango to understand the influence on Julio Le Parc's work.
The creation of Rafel Canogar will offer us the opportunity to explore post-war music in Spain, reflecting the tensions and restrictions of the era, marked by the cultural and political repression of the Franco regime. The work of Rogelio López Cuenca will transport us to the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s through advertisements, highlighting the connection between art and the culture of the time. Miquel Barceló, for his part, has a close relationship with jazz and African music, both of which have marked influence on his artistic production. Finally, the work of Soledad Sevilla will invite us to explore the fusion of music and geometric abstraction, skillfully guiding us through the musical piece "Recuerdos de la Alhambra," performed by composer and guitarist Narciso Yepes.
