On Human Nature

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
Mediterranean Foundation Collection

This exhibition brings together a selection of works created using very diverse techniques and media: painting, analog and digital photography, prints, projections, collage or installations, etc., populated by human beings. Of Human Nature brings together a series of pieces by different artists that share the representation of the human dimension. Narratives around the human body as a figure, as an individual, as a fragment but also as a sum or multitude.

Art has dissected the human being through understanding, passions or morality, in the same way as Scottish philosopher David Hume. More skeptical than ever, the individual shapes their perception of the world through ideas and impressions.

The Circle of Life

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
Ancient Music in the Grooves of Contemporary Art

Four artistic proposals by the most representative artists of the contemporary art scene. Through a circular tour, the works of Carmen Calvo, Eva Lootz, Isabel Muñoz and Flor Galindo show us that the concerns that human beings have as creative entities are the same as those they had in ancient and medieval history. Each installation is accompanied by a musical selection offered by Capella dels Ministrers, the axis around which the Cycle of Life is formed.

Serigraphs of Ibero-Switzerland in the UPV Collection

From the late 1960s to the 1990s, the main Spanish authors worked with Íbero-Suiza. Eusebio Sempere was the first of them to learn this technique. The artists, with a clear anti-Franco commitment, used screen printing as a means to disseminate both their ideological concerns and their art.

For decades, the family of José Llopis has preserved part of the printed material, from prints dedicated to numbered and signed proofs, posters, workshop proofs, color proofs and incomplete prints that were left out of the edition. Material that today allows us to understand the creative process of the artists and the workshop technicians and that is of great interest to specialists and researchers in the field of contemporary graphic work.

The exhibition is composed of 46 pieces, two of them from the MACA. 44 screen prints and 1 original work. In addition to documentary material, letters, drawings, screens, photographs.... and a selection of posters also printed in screen printing.

The flight interface

Issahōmu' is the final degree project by Anabel Ruiz from the School of Architecture at the University of Alicante and was presented at the library of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Alicante.

Physical presence, scenic expressivity around the human body and its physical form, movement and space, are concepts addressed in this exhibition space. Homo habitans, The Interface of a Flight, The Sky as Refuge are models of reflection, perception and commitment that show how, from a poetics of the miniature, to bring spatial responsibility to the forefront.

Palazuelo. Musical Calligraphies

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on

Pablo Palazuelo is one of the key figures in Spanish art of the second half of the twentieth century. An exceptional artist within the panorama of Spanish abstract art, not only because he is the author of a full and rich body of work in its diversity that makes him singular, but also because he departs from the general trends in which the rest of the artists of his generation were inscribed, more interested in material or gestural abstraction. His work, always meticulous and pristine, responds to a very personal geometric conception characterized by an extremely refined technique and an admirable sense of color, constants that are always present throughout his entire career.

This exhibition titled Palazuelo. Musical Calligraphies aimed to approach the artist's work from his relationship with music, exploring the intimate relationship that exists between his work, sound and silence. It allowed one to contemplate how musical language underlies the entire trajectory of the Madrid-born creator as a common denominator element. The exhibition presents works from public and private institutions, from museums and foundations as well as from private collectors who generously lent their works for this exhibition, without which it would not have been possible.

Inadvertent Architecture

Encounters between the DKV Collection and the Fundación Mediterráneo Collection

Inadvertent Architecture. Encounters between the DKV Seguros Collection and the Caja Mediterráneo Collection arises from the interaction of works and artists around a discovery: the poetics of an inadvertent yet present architecture, formally responsible for creating literary spaces as isolated scenes from a dream. Unveiled mysteries where a column, a tree, a door, a spotlight, a hallway, a staircase... help discover the setting of a very personal aesthetic reality. Inquiring into what we habitually do not see, deliberately blurred atmospheres, symbolic and monumental spaces but also lived spaces that sometimes evoke a forgotten past, a memory that brings the trace that remains alive. Dignified architecture that constructs a narrative landscape between representation and illusion. Universes of fiction of extraordinary beauty and evocative capacity. Self-absorbed figures in a moment prior to chaos resolved in unstable equilibrium, where the vulnerable or the fragile by its lightness, breaks.

Fernando Sinaga. Ideas K

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on

Works loaned by private collections and the artist's collection. This retrospective that encompassed a large part of his creative period (1984-2011), vindicated Fernando Sinaga's independent spirit and sought to make evident the richness and complexity of his work. The transgression of boundaries implies not only the interactivity between works, whether objects or images, but the appreciation of space as a visual and plastic element rather than as a neutral container for creations, which in turn implies valuing art more as an aesthetic experience in which one participates, than as distant contemplation.

The exhibition made clear that Sinaga immerses himself in an individual ideology, changing, favoring differences rather than homogeneity, and that responds to the aesthetic imperative in the sense of creation and not beauty, on one hand through the expansion of the concept of sculpture, and on the other, in works such as De los sentimientos, 1994 through the revision of the idea of abstraction.

As a reflection

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
Mediterranean Foundation Collection

As a form of reflection, it invites the viewer to reflect on the very concept of reflection: the action and effect of reflecting, considering something anew or carefully, meditating, suggesting… but also, on the action and effect of being reflected. This exhibition brought together a total of 13 works by 11 artists. Thirteen works that showed an image of reality that captivates us, fascinated by that play of transparencies, of glazes, of reflections… that remain imprinted on the floor, the glass, the canvas, the panel or the photograph, thus demonstrating the fragility of the solid and the mysterious interaction of light and space. But also a reflection around the very concept and function of art itself; artistic phenomena that have blurred the boundaries between genres and techniques, leading toward a complexity of the hybrid, questioning the absolute and dwelling on the conceptual process of representation, where knowledge, memory, verisimilitude or ambiguity resonate like a murmur: a sum of words, of shadows and of noises that, in turn, are also reflected.

Silent Genealogies

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
Mediterranean Foundation Collection

This exhibition brings together a selection of works that are part of this Mediterranean Foundation Collection deposited at the MACA. The exhibition brings together a series of works by different artists that share a common creative process. A fragmented process, made in pieces, often asymmetrical and that reveals the structure of the work, always with an uncomfortable sensation of nakedness or defenselessness.

Artists who do not offer solutions but rather question, and convey to the viewer, the problems of a reality that has been taking shape in an increasingly complex and fragmentary way, where ideologies have lost their validity and social, political or aesthetic discourse has become incomplete, precarious and, in many cases, chaotic. All of this is evident in the works of art that are exhibited here.

Art in Airports

Submitted by brandcode_deweloper on
Aena Contemporary Art Collection

This collection began to form more than 30 years ago through the organizations that preceded AENA in making decisions about investments in aeronautical infrastructure. Most of the paintings, sculptures, murals and graphic works that make up the Collection correspond, with some important exceptions, to the most recent Spanish and Ibero-American artistic production where the most significant trends of contemporary art are represented.

The selection shown at the MACA corresponds to an excellent generation of artists that represent the best of Spanish art from the last quarter of the twentieth century. The selected works stand out for their contemporaneity and expressive force and provoke an intense emotional impact on the viewer.
